The best part about being in a foreign country is that everything is new and exciting no matter where you go. There's a new adventure waiting for you every time you turn a corner. Here are some more things I've noticed!
1. Meat is very expensive here, so prices are jsut a little lower than Canadian prices if you eat barbecue. But most of the time, food is quite inexpensive.
Guess how much this costs?
^ Kimbab (sushi look-alike), Dokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and noodles cost us a total of $7.50 all together. Score!
This is typical food court food. The whole thing cost us 6 dollars. This bibimbap had fish roe in it!
2. Very strange store displays. From skanky robotic bowing women to lifesize bears shaking their booty, Korean store fronts have interesting ways to advertise their products. Yesterday i saw this: head on a pike. hmmm.
3. At schools, children and teachers take off their shoes before entering each classroom. Everyone is either barefoot, in socks, or slippers!
4. Also strange, there are NO caretakers/janitors at the school! The entire school is cleaned and maintained by staff and students! Children take turns mopping the floors, cleaning the bathrooms, taking out the trash, etc. My fellow teacher friends, please take a moment to imagine the state of our schools if it was up to our kids to clean it.
7. On your way home from the subway, you will notice everyone holding and staring at their cellphone, which isn't anything new. But wait, what's that? Look carefully, there's an antennae sticking out of it! These people are actually watching TV. Yes you heard me. TV!! They get all the channels on their cellphones! You can also watch TV in your car on your navigation panel.

Oh man, the food looks so good!! I heard that Koreans don't really eat a lot of meat there, maybe that's why?
ReplyDeleteThe metal cups in a cupboard thing I've seen at the old Galleria here. I didn't know that it was sterilized by UV though! :p
Looks like you have having loads of fun exploring the city! :)
